Castro era to end in Cuba

Raúl Castro, who took over from his brother Fidel 12 years ago and led Cuba through some of its biggest changes in decades, is expected to step down on Thursday.
This is the first time since the Cuban revolution that the country's reins of power will be held outside the Castro dynasty.

After Fidel Castro's death in 2016, Raul's departure from office draws the curtain on nearly 60 years of Castro rule.

Raúl's handpicked successor, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, 57, is a Communist Party loyalist who was born a year after Fidel Castro claimed power in Cuba.
