SLC election to be pushed back further?

In a big setback for Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) former President Thilanga Sumathipala, the Court of Appeal has given another date for producing the Board AGM roadmap.

During today's hearing (04) of the case against Sumathipala and SLC, based on a complaint filed by former secretary Nishantha Ranatunga, the Sports ministry was ordered to produce the roadmap for the SLC election in proper manner on September 03.

However, if the Ranatunga faction objects against the road map, this will further push court proceedings, which could delay the SLC election to 2019.

Meanwhile, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has also warned that it will reconsider Sri Lanka’s membership status if elections for the Sri Lanka Cricket board are not held within six months.

According to experts, an Interim committee seems the most logical way moving forward under this backdrop.

Last week, a group of former officials of the SLC, namely Jayantha Dharmadasa, Sidath Wettimuny, Upali Dharmadasa, Arjuna Ranatunga, Reinzie Wijetilleke, Ana Punchihewa and Wijaya Malasekara formally urged Sports Minister Faizer Mustapha to appoint an interim committee.
