2018 Horse Racing season will open up on March 17 with minister of Plantations - Navin Dissanayake as the chief guest of the Owners day races on 17th.
The March 17th races will be named as Owners Race Day and include six races of Thoroughbreds.
There will be 5 races of class 1 to 5 and one race for three quarter breds.
Mr. Sinclair Marshall CEO of Royal Turf Club and will continue the onward march in its clear laid policy to maintain the highest standard of racing and protect the rights and prerogatives of the managing committee. "This mission, so wisely conceived by the outgoing CEO Mr. Wayne woods from its inception in the larger interest of racing in Sri Lanka and shall strive to maintain the high traditions set before us. We have the strength and the capacity to deliver the goods. We shall go forward unflinchingly and will not fail.”
Nikhil Punna the RTC Stipendiary Steward/Starter and Event Coordinator stated that “We have been very unfortunate this year because of the unusually wet weather which resulted in our being forced to cancel two race days scheduled for August and September. Because of the inclement weather we had to keep the track closed to avoid serious accidents to Horses and Jockeys. It must be said that we successfully conducted racing last year during this period.”
