Tamim breaks Sanath’s record

Bangladesh’s Tamim Iqbal scored the first century of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 at the tournament opener held in London yesterday (01).

This was Tamim’s 9th century in One-Day Internationals (ODI).

Thrashing 126 against Engliand, Tamim also set a new record for the highest score by an opener against the home team during a tour of England.

The tour was earlier set by Sanath Jayasuriya in 2006 after scoring 122 runs.

However, Joe Root’s classy 133* overshadowed Iqbal’s century and England thrashed Bangladesh by 8 wickets.
