Mathews to captain at ICC Champions trophy

Angelo Mathews has been appointed as the Captain of the Sri Lanka cricket team for the ICC Champions trophy - 2017, Sri Lanka Cricket states.

Upul Tharanga has named named Vice Captain.

The team was announced at a Press Conference to be held at SLC a short while ago.

Matthews who was in India as a member of the Delhi Daredevils for the currently ongoing IPL returned to the country yesterday (23).

A media release by the SLC states that the squad will depart for Kandy on the 9th of May to participate in a 6 day intensity and altitude training programme and will depart Sri Lanka on the 18th of May to play 4 practice games prior to taking on the Champions Trophy challenge with their first game against South Africa on the 3rd of June.
