COPE - SLC meeting, halted midway Featured

Today's (11) meeting of the Committee on Public Enterprise with Sri Lanka Cricket officials was suspended midway.

COPE members suspended today’s audit meeting due to the unpreparedness of SLC officials.

The SLC representatives were told to come prepared for another session in a month's time.

Today's meeting was called to examine the Auditor General’s Report and SLC current performance for the financial years of 2017/2018.

COPE chairman - Prof. Charitha Herath said that the irregular financial administration of SLC has led to a host of issues and had increased the public displeasure with regard to SLC.

The COPE committee questioned the non-recovery of Rs.29 million in revenue due through a sponsorship of the South Africa tour of Sri Lanka Cricket in 2018.

Sri Lanka Cricket Chairman Shammi Silva informed the Committee that an investigation has been launched by the CID in this regard.

It was revealed at the COPE meeting that the funds had been deposited in the account of a US national and that investigations are underway at present.

Meanwhile, it was further revealed that the SLC has spent Rs. 20 million so far as legal fees due to the legal case filed by former coach - Chandika Hathurusinghe.
