Sri Lanka to focus on 2023 Netball World Cup Featured

The National Netball Pool was pruned to 40 players after the completion of the Selection Trials which were held at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo yesterday (03).

President of the Netball Federation of Sri Lanka (NFSL), Lakshmi Victoria said they will focus mainly on the 2023 World Cup.

The National Team is also mainly focused on this year’s Asian Indoor Games in Thailand.

National Coach, Somitha de Alwis and Assistant Coach, P. D. N. Prasadi were also present on this occasion.

On the same day, the practical examination of the 2019 Netball Referees Ranking was also conducted at the Sugathadasa Stadium. The Netball Selection Committee is headed by Yasa Ramachandra and the other members are Padma Beddewela, Vajira Pushpakumari, Sakunthala Wijethunga and Deepthi Rupasinghe.

“We have some good senior players and want to search for youngsters for the replacements and it’s very important to make a second string team.”

The Netball Chief further said that the four-day advanced certificate course for netball coaches conducted by the NFSL successfully concluded at the Sports Medicine Unit with the participation of more than 20 coaches.

The lectures were presented by Dr. Lal Ekanayake, (Director General of Sport Medicine Unit), Sajith Jayalal (Director - National Institute of Sports Science) R. B. Wickremasinghe (Assistant Director - National Institute of Sports Science) and Lakmali Thilakerathne (Lecturer - Nutrition Association).
