2 more athletic meets postponed in 2021

The Asian Athletics Association has postponed the 4th Asian Youth Athletics Championships, scheduled to begin on March 01, 2021 in Kuwait, to October 2021 due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

Accordingly, the tournament to select the Youth Athletics Pool, which was scheduled to commence on Feb. 06, 2021, too has been postponed.

The move to hold pool selections in February, which will also hold the GCE O/L examination, has raised eyebrows and the postponement would be undoubtedly good news for school athletes. The Sri Lanka Athletic Association is expected to announce fresh dates for the youth pool selection tournament in the near future.

Meanwhile, The Olympic Council of Asia announces that the 6th Asian Beach Games, due to be held in Sanya City, China from April 2-10, 2021, have been postponed.

The OCA released a statement on December 30 to say that the situation regarding the global COVID-19 pandemic, travel restrictions and health protocols around the continent had brought about the postponement.

The new dates of the OCA’s 6th Asian Beach Games will be determined after joint consultation between the stakeholders.

According to reports, the 2022 Winter Olympics seems to be the only international sporting event currently not given a red light by the Chinese health sector.
