Avishka a good investment for the future - Mahela Featured

In planning the team for the next four years, lessons learnt from this year’s World Cup should be taken into consideration, said former Cricket Captain and Ambassador for the World Cup Mahela Jayawardena. He said, “It has been a tough couple of years for Sri Lanka but we have learned our lessons,” Jayawardene wrote in a column for the ICC.

“It is important that we plan around a group of players who will be there for the next four years and I think Avishka has shown he has to be a big part of that.”

“I knew Avishka from the time he played for the under 19 team. He got the chance to play for the national team even without having played first division cricket. There he faced Australian Michael Clarke and Pat Cummins. He proved his character. In facing England and he was aggressive. He refused to shy away from the West Indies pace attack. It was a gutsy performance and he scored a century (104). His talent is no surprise and we were aware that Avishka is a very talented player.”
