Sanga notes Kusal's & Mathew's initial responsibility Featured

Former cricket player - Kumar Sangakkara has named the players who need to score runs if Sri Lanka is to win the upcoming matches.

Speaking briefly to 'BBC Sandeshaya', Sangakkara has said, "At a world cup game, the batsmen need to score at least 280 runs to give our bowlers a chance. The batsmen should take that responsibility."

"Even though the bowlers did eventually win the match against Afghanistan for us, it was a match we could have easily won anyway, if the batting line did not collapse."

Although certain changes are needed to be made over the conditions of the venue and wicket, significant changes are not needed," he has added.

"Kusal Mendis, Angelo Mathews and Dhananjaya Siva should pull up their socks a bit, and play while identifying the pitch and game conditions. One more thing I observed is that their body language is a bit slow when coming into the ground. This should change. There isn't much time to improve technique, nor do I think it is necessary," he further said.

"Kusal and Angelo both usually get dismissed in the first 12 balls. Their initial responsibility would be to identify the conditions of the match and wicket and play without getting out. If they can play out through the first two overs without getting dismissed, their batting improves significantly. In the practice matches, they played well," Sangakkara noted.

On a separate note, although showers are predicted for the Bristol stadium on Tuesday, it is said that it would not hamper the match like on last Friday.
