Legal hurdle against Mohan de Silva’s candidacy Featured

Mohan de Silva, who runs for the Sri Lanka Cricket presidency from the Thilanga Sumathipala camp, is facing a legal hurdle from a particular amendment introduced to the sports act by former sports minister Dayasiri Jayasekara.

The amendment prevents a previous office bearer of a national sports body, that had violated clause 32 of the sports act from contesting for any position.

De Silva was a member of the SLC committee dissolved by Lakshman Kiriella as the sports minister in 2001 as per that particular clause.

Also, the then sports minister Jeevan Kumaratunga dissolved the de Silva led office-bearers and appointed an interim committee in 2004-05.
