Court order halts Satyagraha campaign by differently-abled soldiers

The Colombo Magistrate's Court today (Sept 18) issued an interim order against the Satyagraha campaign currently being carried out by differently-abled soldiers opposite the Colombo Fort Railway Station.

According to the court order, the protestors would be barred from blocking the entry routes to the Presidential Secretariat, Defence Ministry, Galle Road, Temple Trees, Lotus Road, Prime Minister's office, and the Prime Minister's Secretariat.

The order had been issued by Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake upon considering a request made by the Police. Colombo (Central) Superintendent Nishantha Soysa, DIG Ajith Rohana, and the Fort Police had made the request to court.

The Satyagraha campaign entered its eighth day today. It is being carried out by the soldiers in a bid to have their salaries paid beyond the retirement age of 55 years until their death.
