They charged that the government had promised to release their lands on several occasions, but had cheated them by not delivering on their promise.
Several discussions were held with the participation of the Northern Province Governor, District Secretaries and area commanders of Mullaitivu, Killinochchi, Jaffna, Vavuniya and Mannar.
Those who participated in the discussions said that by December 31 a large amount of lands would be released.
However, the protestors alleged that despite all the promises, no significant amount of lands had been released to the public prior to the promised date.
The protestors had blocked the main gate of the Mullaitivu Security Force Headquarters and the police had to be called in to bring the situation under control.
The Mullaitivu Additional District Secretary K. Dhanabalasundaram had arrived on the scene and having discussed the matter with the Mullaitivu security forces, had promised the protestors to release the lands held by the security forces in Mullaitivu, Keppapilavu.
The protestors warned that this would be their last warning and if their lands are not released prior to January 25, they would settle in their lands by force.
The Keppapilavu residents are currently on their 671dt day of protest demanding the release of their lands.
