Talks to form administrations where there is no clear winner

Main parties are reportedly going to discuss how to form administrations in LG bodies where no party will win a clear majority.

According to the new electoral system, a party should gain more than 55 per cent of the votes from a LG body to form its administration.

Advisors are asking the president to form administrations in such instances by getting the UNP and the SLFP together.

Premier Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday (10) tried, but failed, to telephone the president to discuss this matter.

Meanwhile, a SLFP group led by Dilan Perera is planning to form administrations together with the SLPP, say SLFP sources.

A website having connections to the president’s media unit says official level talks on the matter would begin after all results are announced.
