The Chinese Government Scholarship Award Ceremony was held earlier today at the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka and was attended by Charge d’Affairs of Chinese Embassy - Madam Pang Chunxue, Additional Secretary of Ministry of Higher Education and Cultural Affairs -Madhawa Dewasurendra, embassy officials and scholarship winners together with their families.
Each year, the Chinese government provides 80 bilateral scholarships to Sri Lankan government. The Ministry of Higher Education and Cultural Affairs has helped to select the best nominees in an open and transparent manner.
This year, 10 scholarships were awarded for the Bachelor degree, 04 for Master degree and 08 for the Doctoral degree in different fields like medicine, art, environmental science, archaeology and museology, Chinese Language Teaching, international economic and trade, etc.
The awardees will go to China this September to continue their higher education in well-known universities like Zhejiang University, Wuhan University and Peking University, etc.
At the ceremony, Madam Pang also presented a cheque for another donation of Rs. 4,889,000 for continuing the “Chinese Ambassador Scholarship” annual program, which was first launched in 2016 and aims to reward those academically excellent undergraduate students in Sri Lanka Universities.
The Embassy is now implementing this program for the third consecutive year, in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education and Cultural Affairs of Sri Lanka.
