Former president Chandrika Kumaratunga is to take urban planning and water supply minister Rauff Hakeem to the Bribery Commission on Thursday over an alleged misappropriation of funds for a water supply project in Attanagalle during the previous regime, according to reports reaching Sri Lanka Mirror.
Together with ex-minister Basil Rajapaksa, Hakeem had estimated the cost of the project at Rs. 35 billion, and started the construction.
It later came to light that the project would cost Rs. 18 billion only, and Kumaratunga objected to it.
She has complained to the president and the prime minister, but Hakeem has been allowed to proceed with the project.
