A woman who was brutally and publicly assaulted by a policeman at the Rathnapura Bus Stand in 2014 has been granted a compensation.
The victim - Weerasinghe Arachchilage Kanthilatha, better known as 'Batti' faced this incident in September 2014 and an online video of her being beaten went viral.
She later filed a Fundamental Rights petition in the Supreme Court and following a lengthy trial, the verdict was delivered yesterday.
The panel of judges ordered the respondent to pay a compensation of Rs. 55,000 to the victim.
