He stands accused of harbouring Navy Sampath, a criminal suspect, aiding and abetting him to flee the country and concealing his crime when he was the Navy commander.
Wijegunaratne said previously that if he is charged, he will resign and support the investigations.
However, he still remains in position although the CID has made submissions against him under ‘B’ report no. 9527/18.
The CID has informed the president, PM, law and order ministry, defence secretary and the IGP regarding this development.
The CID reportedly wants to arrest him, but his position prevents it from going ahead.
