Rs. 1,070 m loss from postal strike! Featured

The estimated loss from the ongoing postal strike is said to be Rs. 170 million a day, with a total loss of Rs. 1,070 million revenue due to the six days of work stoppage so far.
The joint postal trade unions front started the strike to demand solutions to the 6/2006 recruitment circular, consolidated allowances and the recruitment procedure.

Convener of the front Anura Warnakulasuriya says around 24,000 postal workers are involved in the strike, halting the accepting and distribution of mail since June 12.

As a result, work at the Central Mail Exchange, 654 post offices and 3,410 sub post offices has come to a halt.

At the CME alone, more than 100,000 letters, parcels etc. remain piled up.
