Colombo garbage will be taken to Puttalam - Rosy

The garbage collected in Colombo daily is around 600 metric tons, while 50 tons of it is un-segregated garbage, said Colombo Mayor Rosy Senanayake.

She noted that CMC workers have to be assigned separately to segregate this garbage on a daily basis as such un-segregated garbage is not accepted by the Muthurajawela garbage yard.

The Mayor said the CMC Health Unit is entrusted with the task of segregating the un-sorted garbage which is just dumped on the streets and appealed to all residents in Colombo to segregate their garbage when disposing of it.

Mayor Rosy Senanayake further added that by next year, the 600 metric tons of garbage from Colombo will be taken to the sanitary yard currently being constructed at Aruwakkalu in Puttalam, adding that its initial operations would commence from December this year.
