Files against Gota to AG Featured

The FCID report containing results of the investigation on the state funds of Rs. 90 million, used for the repair and restoration of the tombs of D. A. Rajapaksa and his wife under the ‘Weeraketiya scheme’ was handed over to the Attorney General.

According to FCID sources, the file was handed over to the AG for further legal action.

Although the FCID was scheduled to obtain a statement from Gotabhaya Rajapaksa who was the Defence Secretary at the time, regarding the use of funds from the UDA for this project, it was not possible due to political intervention.
However, FCID sources said a statement from the former Defence Secretary will be obtained on the instructions of the AG.

A non-bailable offence

Investigation in this regard was initiated based on a complaint made to the FCID.
Accordingly, the FCID officials had visited the D.A. Rajapaksa tomb under the Weeraketiya scheme, and had also recorded statements from project officers.

Investigations revealed that Rs. 90 million from the Land Reclamation and Development Corporation was used to fund this project.
Misuse of state funds is a non-bailable offence.
