Even if the SLPP polled 50 per cent of the votes at the LG polls, the votes obtained by the UNP, UPFA, JVP, TNA and SLMC altogether remains the same from 2015, according to him.
Marikkar told Sri Lanka Mirror that the SLPP’s election campaign was personally led by Mahinda Rajapaksa and the ex-president’s photo was used for its promotion, unlike the president and the prime minister who did not lead campaigns of their respective parties.
He went onto say that under his organizing free of corruption or terror, the UNP had recorded unprecedented victories at the Kolonnawa urban council and Kotikawatte-Mulleriyawa Pradeshiya Sabha.
When the UNP recorded a 32 pc aggregate countrywide, it was 43 pc in Kolonnawa, Marikkar said, adding the party would form the administration of Kolonnawa UC, while allying with the UPFA for Kotikawatte-Mulleriyawa PS.
He added that the people would remain with the party if they were treated likewise.
