UNP wants Greek bond scam too, probed Featured

A presidential commission that is to be appointed soon should inquire into the Greek bond sale that took place during the Rajapaksa regime as well, UNP backbenchers have asked president Maithripala Sirisena.

Their request follows a promise given by the president to SLFP electoral organizers two days earlier that he would appoint a commission to probe fraud and corruption at SriLankan and Mihin Lanka airlines.

The UNP MPs have pointed out to the president that the Greek bond scam caused a Rs. 3.3 billion loss to the state, comparing it to a Rs. 898 million loss from the Central Bank bond scam under the present regime.

Meanwhile, prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said in a media statement on October 15 that the previous government refused at least to investigate the Greek bond scam.
