Payment of compensation to victims and relatives, prevention of terrorism act, office of the mission persons, justice for all communities, torture and arrests, protection for religious minorities, sexual violence, violence against women and Muslim marriage and divorce act will be among the matters that will come up for consideration.
Truth commission in September
Sri Lanka is yet to appoint a committee to inquire into war crimes allegations, as promised to the UNHRC on several occasions, and also the appointment of a truth commission.
Finance minister Mangala Samaraweera has proposed through the budget to allocate finances for the Office of the Missing Persons, the Act for which president Maithripala Sirisena has signed.
The government has put off debating the international convention for the protection of all persons from enforced disappearances bill following opposition by religious leaders and opposition parties.
‘Thwarted attempt on same-sex relationships law’
Meanwhile, the president has said that he thwarted an attempt to introduce amendments to the penal code with regard to same-sex relationships.
