Foreign Minister portfolio to Amunugama

Due to the controversial Treasury bond scandal, Foreign Minister Ravi Karunanayake has decided to tender his resignation while Dr. Sarath Amunugama is expected to be appointed to fill the vacancy, according to reliable government information received by Sri Lanka Mirror.

It is said that although the post of Foreign Minister should be filled by a UNPer according to the agreement between the two parties, under the current situation and given the international experience of Dr. Sarath Amunugama, even Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe had given his consent to appoint Amunugama.

It has also been proposed to hand over Amunugama’s current portfolio to Tilak Marapone.

However, a weekend newspaper operated by a government minister had predicted that Navin Dissanayake would be appointed to the post of Foreign Minister.
