Rs. 400 m loss from CHOGM car sales! Featured

The state has suffered a Rs. 400 million loss from the sale of luxury cars that had been imported for CHOGM that was held in Sri Lanka during the Mahinda Rajapaksa regime, the annual report of the Finance Ministry says.

Eighty two cars had been imported, purportedly for use by the heads of states attending the meeting.

However, they had been used by Namal Rajapaksa and top figures in his Tharunyata Hetak and Nil Balakaya organizations.

Valued up to Rs. 54 million, these cars were intended to be sold to foreigners after the CHOGM, but no information is available as to how many of them had been re-exported.
