Officer in hiding with Rs. 32m of university money Featured

The Peradeniya University management has lodged a complaint with the CID against one of its deputy financial superintendents that he has gone into hiding after defrauding Rs. 32 million of university money.

The officer in question has allegedly obtained the money by closing a state bank account maintained by the university’s postgraduate institute, purportedly to deposit in another bank with better interest returns.

He has obtained the signature of the institute’s director for the purpose a few days ago, and had faked the signature of the deputy registrar to get the money released.

Thereafter, he has gone into hiding.

Vice chancellor Prof. Upul Dissanayake said an internal investigation too, was underway, after suspending the services of the deputy financial superintendent.
