Civil Aviation Authority paid Rs. 13,060 m as rent Featured

The Civil Aviation Authority that has a staff of 147 has paid Rs. 13,060 million as rent in a 15 year duration for the building which houses its head office.

The building in question belongs to a close friend of the Authority’s director general, say employees of the Authority.

The monthly rental is Rs. six million.

The Authority has on several occasions contributed Rs. 700 million each to the Treasury, but it has so far been unable to have its own head office building.

Civil aviation minister Nimal Siripala de Silva has inquired about this from its administration and has instructed that the construction of a permanent head office building at Naikanda in Katunayake be expedited.

The foundation for this building was laid around one-and-a-half years ago, but only four stories have so far been completed.
