Rajitha on why he objected to secretary nominee Featured

Health minister Rajitha Senaratne says he has objected to the new secretary nominated for his ministry as he is an officer due to retire in February next year.

President Maithripala Sirisena has appointed Udaya R. Seneviratne to the position.

Speaking to Sri Lanka Mirror, minister Senaratne said it was pointless to have a secretary who would remain in the job for only six months, as he has made plans for the ministry for the next three years.

He also refuted claims that his new media director Prasanna Adhikari was a spy for the prime minister.

The minister retorted by asking if the media director could catch thieves.

He said the position had been vacant and a qualified person was being looked into when the director of government information proposed Adhikari’s name.

He was accepted after getting to know that he had worked for Wimal Weerawansa too, Senaratne added.
