Former head of national intelligence retired Maj. Gen. Kapila Hendawitharana is due to appear before the FCID tomorrow (14) to give a statement.

The basis for his summoning is the revelations made while under interrogation by military officials arrested over abductions, disappearances and murders during the Mahinda Rajapkasa regime and top state officials accused of financial fraud.

Hendawitharana has also been accused of political involvement in support of the then government while serving as head of the national intelligence service.

After the FCID made submissions about several instances of money being deposited in foreign banks, Colombo additional magistrate Nishantha Peiris permitted in May 2015 the investigation of all bank accounts of Hendawitharana.
