Death toll rises to 194
According to the Disaster Management Centre, the death toll from floods and landslides has now risen to 194, with 99 others reported missing.
More than 575,000 people from nearly 150,000 families are affected by the adverse weather.
President calls for detailed report
At a meeting at his office today, president Maithripala Sirisena ordered a detailed report on the damage caused, and instructed authorities to expedite the rebuilding of the damaged houses.
He said new houses should be built outside landslide prone areas, and never in reservations.
