Accordingly, plans are underway to increase the current national minimum monthly wage by Rs.5000 from Rs. 12,500 to Rs. 17,500 and the national minimum daily wage by Rs. 200, from Rs. 500 to Rs. 700.
Therefore, the Minimum Wage Act is to be amended.
The minister pointed out that low-wage workers are facing dire difficulties as a result of inflation under the National Consumer Price Index increasing to 59% in June.
The National Labor Advisory Council has also agreed to raise the minimum wage.
