Opposition for Wimal – NFF internal conflicts Featured

The National Freedom Front (NFF) leading members have expressed objections over the actions of the party Leader, Wimal Weerawansa and his family members who take control of the party and act according to their own desire, according to party internal sources.

The main reason that the party is disgruntled is over Wimal Weerawansa’s decision to stage a fast while in prison against the advice of the party and the manner in which his wife and relatives had acted disregarding party advice.

When Weerawansa was brought to Court yesterday, NFF, MP, Weerakumara Dissanayake had reprimanded a nephew of Wimal Weerawansa known as Saranga in public over a Facebook comment by him. Saranga had posted a comment stating that some of the NFF leaders are nincompoops.

Meanwhile, party member MP Roger Seneviratne too is believed to be saddened by the actions of Weerawansa’s wife who had scolded him in public.

Wimal Weerawansa’s fast was criticised by Joint Opposition Leader Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Dinesh Gunawardena and other JO members as well.

However, it was Dinesh Gunawardena who continuously pressured the Prime Minister to grant bail to Weerawansa.

Wimal Weerawansa who was remanded for almost three months, was ordered to be released on a cash bail of Rs.50,000 with two sureties of Rs.500,000 by Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne yesterday.

Weerawansa was receiving treatment at the Colombo National hospital and was brought to Court in a Prison Department ambulance.

Upon completing the Court procedures, Weerawansa was taken back to the National hospital by ambulance.
The Case will be taken up again on June 19. The defendant was represented by a team including Presidents Counsel Jayantha Weerasinghe and Attorney Kapila Gamage.
