Upon inquiring into the matter, 'Sri Lanka Mirror' has been able to unveil many fine details in this regard.
The true owner of the 'Dambulla Giants' franchise is a Sri Lankan living in England.
Although someone else has been named as the official owner of the franchise, the franchise is truly owned by Sarath Seneviratne, a doctor by profession who was once a talented cricketer in Sri Lanka.
Dr. Seneviratne is married to the daughter of Mr. Kingsley Wickramasinghe from Kalutara. Kingsley is the brother of Shelly Wickramasinghe, who was once the president of the Bloomfield Cricket Club.
Dr. Seneviratne's son - Sasha has also been selected for the Dambulla Giants franchise. Sasha, a former player of St. Thomas' College, now plays for the Moratuwa Sebastianites.
The Sebastianites too, was bought by Dr. Seneviratne a year ago, for an eye watering sum. Accordingly, Sasha was granted the chance to play for the club but showed no talent in the recent season.
Sasha's selection to the Dambulla Giants had raised eyebrows at the LPL players draft and many had questioned why a player of lesser talent was chosen. However, what had merely happened was that the franchise owner had chosen his son for the team.
With both the father and son being Thomians, it is said that more prominence is given to Thomians during selections of the Sebastianites and the Dambulla Giants.
Accordingly, a group of players representing the Old Thomians' Sports Club including Chichi have joined a recent training session held by the local players of the Dambulla Giants before the LPL kicked off.
The photos circulating on social media were from this particular practice session and also included that of Chichi's.
Meanwhile, it is said that those who attended this practice session were not wearing the team clothes that the franchise's players will be wearing for matches.
It is also said that no player who was not selected during the player draft can play for a franchise without the approval of Sri Lanka Cricket.
Meanwhile, quoting one of his old Tweets, Chichi has reiterated that he has no intention of playing for the LPL.
