Data operator further remanded over missing NMRA data Featured

A data operator of a private company has been further remanded over the disappearance of files from the National Medicines Regulatory Authority database, till the 25th of October.

The order was issued by Colombo Chief Magistrate Buddhika Sri Ragala.

NewsRadio Court correspondent said during today’s hearing, the Magistrate had informed that any bail requests must made in writing.

The individual was attached to the company that set up the database for the NMRA.

He was arrested under provisions of the Computer Crimes Act and Public Properties Act.

The Criminal Investigation Department today informed court that it has seized two laptops, a tab, three mobile phones and two data storage devices that were in the possession of the suspect at the time of his arrest.

The State Counsel representing the CID has requested the Magistrate to issue an order to direct the said items to the Digital Forensic Division at the Department of Government Analyst for inspection.

Accordingly, the Magistrate ordered the items to be directed to the Government Analyst Department.

Meanwhile, the CID also requested permission to question the suspect from the 21st to the 23rd of October within prison premises.

Accordingly, permission was granted to record statements from the suspect.

President’s Counsel Saliya Pieris who is representing the suspect sough bail on behalf of his client.

However, the Magistrate had announced that the request must be made in writing on the 25th of October.
