He was speaking at the opening of the Covid-19 Ward at the National Hospital in Kandy today (26).
He also stated:
“In previous years, it was the Ministry of Defence that received the highest allocation. The second largest allocation was usually allotted to theMinistry of Education while the Ministry of Health came at third place. However, the Minister of Finance - Basil Rajapaksa has told me that the highest allocation would be made to the Ministry of Health, this time. These funds are not to start new things but rather to complete what is already underway,"he said.
"Many have come to obtain the Covid-19 vaccine. However, in a backdrop where some are disregarding it, administering the vaccine will have to be reviewed in the future. If there is a need to formulate a legal framework, we hope to do that as well, in consultation with the health sector."
The minister also pointed out that the vaccination of teachers, which had been a major hindrance to starting schools, has now surpassed the target percentage of 99%.
