Mahinda Rajapaksa had a single room under no. 1002 allotted to him, in addition to the normal hotel accommodation when he toured Ukraine as the president, says foreign affairs minister Mangala Samaraweera.

Samaraweera was responding to a question raised by us as to whether president Maithripala Sirisena undertook his just-concluded Russia visit along with a 140-member team.

According to him, a one-night’s stay at that room cost Rs. 204,214.

Also, Shiranthi Rajapaksa had taken four of her attendants to Ukraine, in addition to her 11 bodyguards, even through Mahinda Rajapaksa himself had only nine bodyguards, said Samaraweera.

Also, two teleprompter operators had been paid to tour along with him to help him with his speeches, he added.

He added the president Sirisena’s team to Russia included only 47 persons, including his bodyguards, journalists and politicians.
