AG wants a DIG arrested? Featured

Media reports state that the Attorney General has instructed the Inspector General of Police to arrest and present to courts a Deputy Inspector General, on charges of assaulting a police constable over an issue with pork. This incident occurred while the DIG in question (a Senior Superintendent of Police at the time) was on holiday with his family at the Police Bungalow in Nuwara Eliya.

The incident occurred in February 2019.

The SSP has assaulted the Inspector of Police in charge of the bungalow, stating that the quantity of pork prepared for dinner was not enough. The IP has made an official complaint in this regard to the Nuwara Eliya police crimes investigations division.

The IP in charge of the Nuwara Eliya Senior Police Officials bungalow was Dayananda Alahakoon and he had received treatment for the injuries at the Nuwara Eliya District hospital.

When 'Sri Lanka Mirror' inquired from police spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa, he stated that he is, in general, not privy to the documents exchanged between the AG and the IGP, adding that he is not aware of any instructions given to take a DIG into custody.
