Lockdowns imposed unsystematically - Ravi Kumudesh

The Academy of Health Professionals says according to the World Health Organization, Sri Lanka has become the country which has imposed the highest number of lockdowns during the COVID-19 pandemic and the nation with the most number of people who have violated lockdown regulations.

The Union said since lockdowns have been imposed without a systematic manner and for a lengthy period, the concept of curfew and lockdowns have been undermined.

Speaking during a media briefing, Chairman of the Academy of Health Professionals Ravi Kumudesh said they have repeatedly requested from authorities to increase the number of PCR and other tests during the lockdown period.

He said however the Ministry of Health and authorities have disregarded the call to increase tests. Ravi Kumudesh said the public was forced to demand for a lockdown and they will now stage demonstrations to re-open the country, since it has not been enforced properly.

He said authorities should impose a scientific lockdown which will genuinely help the number of coronavirus cases to come down.
