Remanded National Freedom Party leader - Wimal Weerawansa is in serious condition as he had refused to abandon his fast, despite being admitted to the Prison Hospital last week due to his medical condition, Prison sources say.
According to reports, Weerawansa’s blood sugar levels and blood pressure levels have dropped and doctors are monitoring the condition of his heart and kidneys.
In this backdrop, the chief doctor of the Prison Hospital has informed the courts that Weerawansa is not in a condition to be produced before courts.
Weerawansa was to appear before courts today with regard to the case where the media spokesman of the party - Mohommad Muzzammil was allegedly offered Rs. 4.2 million as a bribe in 2010.
Meanwhile, speaking during a media conference, minister of tourism - John Amaratunga had stated that Wimal would be dragged off to a cemetary should he die while fasting.
When asked whether Wimal was being kept behind bars to keep his tongue in check, the minister has said, “Wimal is being held behind bars to shut him up. If he dies while fasting, will drag him off to cemetary.”
