Over 600,000 seek visa to migrate due to govt's inability

More than 600,000 Sri Lankans have applied to migrate after the SLPP-led incumbent government came into power, said former Minister and UNP President Vajira Abeywardena.

He said these Sri Lankans have applied for visas mainly to go to countries in Europe, USA, Australia and Canada.

He said these facts have been confirmed by the visa application centers.

Most of them are Sinhala Buddhists and among them are businessmen, professionals, trained and qualified persons, he said, adding as a result of this, Sri Lanka would suffer a severe "brain drain".

These Sri Lankans have opted to leave due to the way the government has been handling the economy and also the failure of the government to ensure stability in the country.
