O/L and A/L exam periods revised

The Cabinet of Ministers has granted approval to a proposal to revise the periods holding the GCE Ordinary Level (O/L) and GCE Advanced Level (A/L) examinations.

Accordingly, it has been approved to hold the GCE O/L Examination in the month of August and the GCE A/L Examination in December, in future.

The Cabinet paper presented by the Minister of Education has proposed to restructure and complete the syllabus of Grades 10 and 11 within one year and nine months.

Furthermore, measures will be taken to release the results of the respective examinations within three months.

Moreover, according to the proposal, the selection of students to local universities will be made based on Z-scores without waiting until the re-correction process of the Advanced Level Exam is concluded.

The Education Minister has said the proposals aim to reduce the time spent by students to complete school and university education by about 14 to 16 months and allow them to enter the job market at the earliest.

Accordingly, the structural inconsistencies in the education system and administrative delays will be eliminated through the implementation of the Cabinet paper.
