Minister Thonda Jr. owes Rs. 600,000 as water bills

The water bill at the official residence of State minister - Jeewan Thondaman has an arrears of over Rs. 600,000, the 'Mawrata' newspaper reports.

The Central Province section of the National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) is said to be in crisis due to non-paid water bills amounting to over Rs. 341 million, dating from the pandemic days of last year to Feb. 2021.

It is reported that the security forces in the Central Province are to pay Rs. 3.8 million while the police stations and health units of the province are yet to settle Rs. 11 million and Rs. 35 million respectively.

Although the NWSDB has continuously urged the relevant departments and responsible individuals to settle these arrears amounts, it has not been done properly so far.

In contrast, it is said that about 85% of the water bill arrears of the general public that has been piling up since the pandemic days, has been settled.
