Pilot who flew to Wuhan, removed! Featured

SriLankan Airlines Head of Flight Operations Capt. Pravin Wettimuny and Chief Pilot Chaminda de Zoysa have been removed from their posts, 'Aruna' newspaper reports.

However, 'Sri Lanka Mirror' learned that they had not been sacked but had resigned over an issue raised when appointing a training officer.

Capt. Chaminda was one of the pilots who volunteered to fly the plane to bring down the students from Wuhan at the very start of the Covid-19 pandemic.

One of the main allegations they face is allowing an individual with an expired licence in the cockpit as First Officer.

Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority, Captain Themiya Abeywickrema had formally informed SriLankan Airlines CEO - Vipula Goonetileke that an unauthorised individual was allowed in the cockpit of a A330 craft on Dec. 15, 18 and 19.

This incident was initially revealed by 'Sri Lanka Mirror'.
