The proposal had been submitted by the Transport minister, and the card is said to be introduced with the objective of circumventing inconveniences caused due to the present method of cash payments.

Lanka Clear (Pvt) Ltd, a local company affiliated to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka and with its approval has submitted a proposal for the proposed online pre-paid transit card project and the Cabinet of Ministers granted their approval for utilizing the online pre — paid transit card for the transport sector within the island subject to the said project proposal.
