6 new quarantine rules for overseas arrivals

The Ministry of Health has issued six new guidelines pertaining to the quarantine method of individuals arriving island from overseas.

Accordingly, arrivals must quarantine for 14 days. Director General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardana said persons who adhere to the 14-day quarantine period will not require to undergo a further 14-days of home quarantine.

The Ministry said individuals arriving in the island will have to undergo a PCR test upon arrival and subsequently be directed to a quarantine facility under the supervision of health officials.

Those in quarantine will be required to use individual sanitary facilities that is not shared.

During the 14-day period individuals will not be allowed to interact with others undergoing quarantine measures.

The Ministry said undergoing another PCR test between the 12th and 14th day of quarantine is also mandatory, while the test must return a negative result.

The Director General of Health Services added the individual in charge of the quarantine centre and the regional health authority must approve of the completion of the quarantine process at the end of the 14-day period.
