Speaking to media, Prisons Commissioner General Thushara Upuldeniya had said the protest was staged at a time when PCR tests were being carried out on prisoners and 100 - 150 prisoners are subjected to PCR tests daily.

Colombo prisons isolated?

All Colombo prisons have been isolated for two weeks, after prison inmates were tested positive for Covid-19.

Deputy Director of Health Services at Prisons - Hemantha Ranasinghe has said that the Welikada Prison, Magazine Prison and Colombo Remand Prison have been isolated in this manner.

Accordingly, no one will be allowed in or out of these facilities for two weeks while staff required for prison duties will be kept inside the premises as well.
