Maning market to be relocated to Peliyagoda

Measures are being taken to temporarily relocate the Colombo Maning Market to Peliyagoda, police spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana says.

The measure is facilitated due to grave challenges faced by vegetable farmers who have been unable to sell their produce owing to the closure of the market and a plot of land owned by the State Engineering Corporation will be utilised for this purpose.

Head of the Presidential Task Force on Economic Revival and Poverty Eradication Basil Rajapaksa had advised officials to resume trading promptly amidst strict adherence to health safety regulations.

The manning Market was closed once again on Monday due to an influx of new Covid-19 cases, while around 150 – 200 vegetable lorries arriving at the market on a daily basis were directed to other economic centres.

DIG Ajith Rohana said that staff and nattamis who had functioned at the Maning market will be able to function at the new market. However, they have to face PCR tests before that, he said.
Those who are yet to face PCR tests can enter lists by contacting a SSP of Colombo through  0718591551.
