Speaking to media in Kandy, State Minister Dilum Amunugama said next week, the new COVID-19 transport policy will be unveiled.
He added, the policy will consist of measures to ensure the safety of passengers among others.
The State Minister said private bus owners despite incurring massive losses, have operated buses during the COVID-19 crisis period.
The State Minister said since the operators are incurring losses, the government, based on the new policy will revise bus fares.
State Minister Dilum Amunugama noted that if health authorities allowed operators to function without any restrictions then bus fares will not be revised.
State Minister Amunugama added that if curfew is lifted on Monday, all Sri Lanka Transport Board buses will function according to the timetable.
He said long-distance buses will also operate if restrictions are lifted.
On a separate note, State Minister Dilum Amunugama claimed that no decision has been taken to increase train fares although additional restrictions will be imposed on rail passengers.
