Committee to look into allegations against Brandix

Minister of Labor - Nimal Siripala de Silva yesterday (12) appointed a special committee to inquire into allegations against the Brandix apparel factory.

The company faces allegations on its workers being infected by Covid-19 and not following the necessary health regulations.

Deputy Commissioner of Labor E.C.P. Dabare and K.B.G.Premadasa, Legal Officer, Department of Labor are members of the committee.

The minister also called for a full report on this regard.

Earlier, in a media release, the Free Trade Zones & General Services Employees Union (FTZ&GSEU) stated they proposed to the Tripartite Taskforce appointed by the Labour Ministry to establish Health committees at every enterprise to ensure decisions taken by the Taskforce are implemented and to monitor guidelines set by health authorities and precautionary measures at factories.
